Extraordinary…A magical, world-class theatrical experience ★★★★★
— Edinburgh Guide

 Performed by Susanna Hamnett
Written and adapted from Shakespeare by Susanna Hamnett & Edith Tankus
Directed by Edith Tankus    Additional direction by Steve MacGregor

What if the great and tragic story of King Lear were told through the eyes of his closest companion? In this dynamic one-woman tour-de-force, Susanna Hamnett plays the Fool (and every other character) to tell a story that – with an exuberant blend of tragedy and humour – honours Shakespeare’s language while taking a bit of poetic licence. By turns poignant, mischievous, tragic, and hilarious, Nearly Lear is a very personal journey into the heart of Shakespeare’s play.

This award-winning and internationally acclaimed ‘mighty theatrical force’ has enthralled audiences from Toronto to Aberdeen, and from Broadway and the Kennedy Center to the Sydney Opera House. It is the winner of the prestigious IPAY Victor Award for Outstanding Production, was named a 2023 Edinburgh Festival Fringe Outstanding Production, and in 2024 won the Best Show Award at the Riverside Studios London Bitesize Festival.

The show was extraordinary in its fineness. So detailed, skilled and full of heart and humanity…the reimagining of Lear was beautiful.
— Patsy Rodenburg OBE, RSC Director of Voice

To be a clown is to embrace the freedom and joy of your own glorious foolishness.

There is a clown that lives inside each of us. This clown is full of life - it is beautiful and hilarious.

This introductory workshop is a chance to invite your clown out to play. To jump into a space of presence, chaos and delight, and discover more of what makes each of us uniquely funny and loveable.

The clown reunites us with our innate curiosity and allows us to befriend parts of ourselves that we judge or stifle. It invites us to rediscover wonder.

Susanna Hamnett fell in love with the open-heartedness of the clown over thirty years ago when she began studying and working with master clowns John Turner and Michael Kennard in Toronto, and it has infused her theatre work and teaching ever since.

This workshop is suitable for anyone 18 and up. No previous experience of clown or theatre needed. It is limited to 18 participants

Warning: this workshop carries a high risk of laughter and fun.

You can read more about Susanna’s work here: www.susannahamnett.com

Please note: if you sign up for the workshop, I will write to you towards the end of April with more information (what to wear, what to bring etc), so do look out for an email from this address: susannadayhamnett@gmail.com

Stories in the Dust
Anna Harriott and Iona Fleur Sheppard

The sun beats down on two travellers, journeying across a mysterious land in a contraption they've built themselves. They sing, play games, and tell stories inspired by a collection of precious things they've gathered from a time gone by.

With live music and puppetry, Stories in the Dust is a funny, heartfelt and hopeful eco-fable that takes you to another world. A world where an ancient book guides your way, a drop of rain changes everything and a mighty lion holds its secrets in an old clay pot.

Will our intrepid explorers make it? They're full of ideas and full of hope but dangerously low on baked beans.

Words can’t do justice to how good Anthem For Dissatisfaction is.” ★★★★★
— The Indiependent

"Songs aren’t just about love or breakups. They’re about desire. Gambling. Shouting. Being skint. Frustration. Love too. They’re about us. Me and her. This is our language, our way of consistently telling each other: It’s alright mate I’ve got you! I get it!"

The Credit Crunch, 2007. ‘Irish Twins’ Sarah and Jamie are growing up in Belfast with a shared obsession of music and the weight of parents on the breadline. Pop, rock and punk rails against austerity Britain and an ever-failing Tory-government, giving these siblings an epic score to navigate lives that are destined for different paths.

Oasis, The Jam, Springsteen and Sam Fender songs scream at the state of the nation, tugging at the memories of what it means to grow up on benefits in a country where poverty became a punchline. Benefits Britain never sounded so good…

A defiant “rip-roaring tour de force” fuelled by the music and people who speak to your soul and punch you in the gut. The multi-award-winning gig-theatre show Anthem For Dissatisfaction rejoices in working class strength with wit, integrity, and disarming honesty.

Come see Christopher Brett Bailey (This Is How We Die) perform I Saw Satan at the 7-Eleven. Fear and Loathing meets South Park in a screwball monologue that's part romance, part buddy comedy, part body horror.

Two miles north of Hell, a nameless deadbeat narrator spots Satan buying soy milk at the 7-Eleven. Satan's a washed-up has-been, who’s totally lost his edge. That is until he falls in love with our narrator and the two embark on a debauched misadventure, by turns slapstick, violent, whimsical, dreamlike and tender.

★★★★★ Director Noël Jones and Executive Director Harriet Morris have brought to the intimate stage of the Nutshell a production to rival any large budget production I have previously seen.
— THEATRE AND ARTS REVIEWS

At the height of his power, Othello is Venice’s greatest general - respected, unstoppable, and newly married to the passionately loyal Desdemona. But in promoting another to be his trusted lieutenant, Othello has unknowingly created a deadly enemy - his overlooked, underestimated, and quietly venomous advisor, the duplicitous Iago. What follows is a furious unravelling of trust, love, and identity in a web of betrayal, manipulation and revenge.

In a world that punishes vulnerability and devours beauty, Discarded Nut rips into Shakespeare’s most devastating tragedy, exposing razor-sharp insights on toxic power, race, and human fallibility. Visually arresting, brutally honest, and emotionally explosive, Othello is a fearless exploration of what happens when we’re driven to the edge.

DNTCo. is a Winchester-based professional theatre company known for trailblazing performances that champion emerging talent and DNYT alumni, with a fearless approach to classic texts that is both theatrically compelling and educationally enriching. By bringing these stories to life in ways that are relevant and exciting, we create work that resonates deeply with today’s audiences and underscores the enduring importance of storytelling and live theatre for all.

The beauty of this show is indescribable…remarkable in its design and a breath-taking delight in it’s delivery ★★★★★
— Edinburgh Guide

It’s so cold in Lunavik that the moon has frozen! A greedy dragon has gobbled every fire and every light, leaving only the white glow of the frozen moon. You can’t feel your toes and the fire freezes in the hearth... but not all warmth is lost. Under the glittering stars and dazzling aurora, Amka’s family huddle together, fishing for eels and knitting plenty of hats.

In this heart-warming tale, a young girl sets out on a quest to confront the dragon under the ice who has hoarded all of the fires and lights for himself. With lively poetry, transforming sets, atmospheric live music and exciting puppetry; Under the Frozen Moon brings to life a beautiful world of ice and adventure.

Award-winning Half a String presents a winter show perfect for ages 3 and above; Amka’s tale is a tender folk story of love, friendship, and giving. Songs are live looped by singer/songwriter Avi Simmons creating wondrous soundscapes. Fun rhythmic poetry written by poet Alice Bryant forms the tale, and astonishing puppets and breath-taking sets designed by Peter Morton complete this stunning performance.

Supported by the Marlowe Theatre and commissioned by ACE.

Masterful in their design and execution, Half A String have created something very special here. ★★★★★

Meet Hypermnestra, Oenone, Ariadne, Laodamia and Phillis. You've heard of them right? No! What about Paris, Theseus, Hercules, Jason?

Tired of being just a footnote in the swaggering epic tales of these "Great" heroes, the Heroines are loud, proud and ready to take centre stage. Princesses, Queens, Nymphs, Politicians and Pioneers, they are grabbing the spotlight to show you that their stories, women's stories, are worth more than the two lines they were originally assigned.

Based on a series of fictional letters called The Heroides written by the Roman poet Ovid, now transformed by 15 leading female and non-binary British playwrights into modern monologues called 15 Heroines.

This show portrays five of these stories, delving into the death of a beloved brother, abandoned by a lover, finding hope for a better future in an arranged marriage, the worry of losing your soulmate to war and trying to hold your country together at a time of political turmoil.

Perfect for fans of Madeline Miller, Natalie Haynes and Pat Barker.

An amateur production by arrangement with Nick Hern Books.

A rollercoaster of emotions, shifting from laugh out loud comedy with slapstick hijinks to deeply moving and personal revelations
— Theatre Everything ★★★★

The Zoo That Comes To You follows the impassioned attempts of two animal enthusiasts to share their love of and concern for animals with the world. They take in animals that need respite, care or a temporary home and have, accidentally, ended up with a whole sanctuary, but with no visitors! So everybody – animals and humans alike – have decided it is time to get out, see the world, and bring the zoo, to you.

Come and meet this eclectic group of charming yet cheeky animals, as they discuss their life experiences and the challenges they face in a rapidly changing world. They have a lot to say and want to inspire people of all ages to take action, because they know small actions can make a big difference in the world.

Featuring puppetry, live music and playful characters, Scarlet Oak Theatre welcomes you to join the conversation about animal conservation.

Running time 60mins. Suitable for ages 5+ but we welcome younger audiences and unaccompanied grownups.

Splendidly synchronised… Jasmine Orchard and Lucia d’Inverno infuse the room with joyful music, silliness and fabulous puppetry.

Urinetown, The Musical

book now.

book now.

An exhilarating, not-to-be missed experience…the funniest, most tuneful musical in town.

Multi award-winning Urinetown is a hilarious musical satire of the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement, municipal politics and musical theatre itself! Hilariously funny and touchingly honest, Urinetown provides a fresh perspective of one of our greatest art forms.

Urinetown is “a mythical place…a bad place” that exists not too far in the future, where a terrible water shortage caused by a 20 year drought has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The Citizens must use the public facilities controlled by a single malevolent company that profits by charging for the “privilege to pee”. From amongst the downtrodden and desperate people, a hero decides he’s had enough and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom!

Inspired by the works of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, Mark Hollman and Greg Kotis’s Urinetown is an irreverently darkly humorous satire in which no one is safe from scrutiny. Celebrated for challenging the very notion of what a musical should be, Urinetown catapults the audience into a hilarious romp with its outrageous perspective, wicked wit and non-stop ability to produce gales of unbridled laughter.

A Discarded Nut Youth Theatre production.

Animal Farm

book now.

book now.

“All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.”

DNYT is a cutting edge company of young actors committed to creating breath-taking & high-quality contemporary adaptations of classic plays and stories. This year DNYT explore the timeless themes of power, revolution and corruption as they bring Orwell's chilling 'fairy story' to riotous and devastating life.

When the downtrodden animals of Manor Farm overthrow their master, Mr Jones, and take over the farm themselves, they imagine it is the beginning of a life of freedom and equality. But gradually a cunning, ruthless elite among them, masterminded by the pigs Napoleon and Snowball, starts to take control. Soon the other animals discover that they are not all as equal as they thought, and find themselves hopelessly ensnared as one form of tyranny is replaced with another.
