THE NUTSHELL
ANTIQUES & FLEA MARKET
We are bringing back the legendary Kings Walk Antiques Market with four pop-up weekend events a year.
For over forty years, our building was the beating heart of Winchester’s independent scene - a ‘hidden gem’ of nostalgia, antiques, collectables, trinkets, beads and more. After nearly a decade since the former Antiques Market closed, we want to pay homage to what was one of our favourite jaunts in Winchester.
Introducing The Nutshell Antiques & Flea Market, a quarterly pop-up event dedicated to bringing creativity, community, and vintage charm back to central Winchester in an indoor market.
Four times a year, we will open the doors to our building and turn it into a bustling weekend market for traders, collectors, and everyday bargain hunters. Expect a handpicked mix of mid-century gems, vintage clothing, eccentric bric-a-brac, retro vinyl, and genuine antiques.
Whether you’re a lifelong Winchester local feeling nostalgic for the old days or a curious visitor looking for a one-of-a-kind find, come step back in time with us.
OUR BUILDING’S HISTORY
We are (very!) proud custodians of our beautiful building, now title The Nutshell, which house all of our producing work, youth theatre and provides exceptional access to creativity and culture for the city of Winchester.
But before we took over the keys in 2018, The Nutshell was known as Winchester’s Antiques Market - a place where our co-CEO’s spent much of the time as local Wintonians.
History of the Building
1883: The building was originally designed and built as a furniture warehouse for the removals firm A.W. White & Co. It was drawn up by a local architect named Thomas Micklam on garden ground just north of Silver Hill.
The Pantechnicons: Until the early 20th century, the company used the building to store goods moved by large, specialist horse-drawn vans known as "pantechnicons."
A Rare Survivor: Most of the pre-war industrial architecture around Silver Hill was demolished during mid-20th-century redevelopments. The former Antiques Market building and the nearby Woolstaplers Hall are considered the very last surviving industrial buildings in central Winchester.
The Antiques Market had a home in Kings Walk for over 40 years and was a little gem of a place, from trinkets and beads to jewellery and antiques, along with a café on the first floor and a host of our emporiums. Its closure marked the end of a major era for local independent traders and antique enthusiasts in the city.
