INCUBATOR

As part of Discarded Nut’s commitment to providing roles for new and emerging creatives we will provide opportunities for 16-25 year olds as part of our Incubator Scheme, overseen and mentored by Discarded Nut’s Artistic Director - Noël Jones and Executive Director - Harriet Morris. These young creatives will work with industry professionals to create work with Discarded Nut Youth Theatre whilst exploring, developing and honing skills as a creative individual, as a practitioner and as part of Discarded Nut CIO. This approach will allow them to understand the reality of the business and start a portfolio of practical experiences. The scheme is aimed at those applying for drama school/university or for those who have recently qualified for drama school/university seeking work in the arts industry.

Discarded Nut Youth Theatre’s younger acting and musicals groups - together with DN holiday workshops - will be staffed by 2-3 members of the Incubator Scheme as workshop leader who will take up roles focussed on acting, singing, and/or dancing. Meanwhile, acting members from the scheme can gain further performance experience by working with Discarded Nut’s Artistic Director - and industry professionals - to lead the older DNYT acting company in The Nutshell’s Christmas show and audition for roles in Discarded Nut Theatre Co.’s Spring production (including the delivery of bespoke schools’ workshops).

Other areas of the Incubator Scheme can also include set and/or costume design, lighting, sound and hair and make-up depending on the applicants’ strengths and desired area of work experience. If an area is unable to be staffed by an appropriate young person, then an experienced practitioner will be employed for the year. Participants will also be guided through areas of theatre production as well as having opportunities to explore areas such as venue management (FOH) and arts marketing (social media).
